Industrial accident in the Berchtesgaden mine

Heilbronn, 25 September 2019

On 25 September 2019, there was an explosion in the Berchtesgaden salt mine at around 8.00 a.m. during welding work underground in the brine extraction area.The area of the visitor mine is not affected.
The explosion caused burns to two employees of a contractor carrying out the work and one employee.
The injured were quickly brought back to the surface thanks to the smooth cooperation of all emergency services.They have since been taken to specialised clinics for further treatment.Their lives are not in danger.
Two other employees suffered minor injuries and are also receiving medical treatment.
The visitor mine is spatially separated from the active mine.This was not yet open to visitors at the time of the accident.There was no danger for the population at any time.
The cause of the accident is currently being investigated in detail.
The visitor mine will open as usual from tomorrow, 26 September.The Salzwerke and the Berchtesgaden Salt Mine wish the injured persons a speedy recovery.
