On a guided tour of the mine, students can expect a vibrant mix of hands-on experiences and educational insights. The tour is not affected by the weather, as the temperature underground is always 12 degrees Celsius.
A guided tour lasts about an hour; you should plan on spending about 1.5 to 2 hours in total. Visits are only possible as part of a guided tour. Like all guests, school groups are provided with coveralls for the tour.

At the scheduled time, please check in at the ticket counter, where your reservation confirmation will be exchanged for tickets. After that, all guests will be provided with overalls.
The tour begins with a ride on the mine railway; if desired, a class photo can be taken here. You will then travel about 650 meters into the mountain on the mine railway. Underground, numerous highlights await you, including the mine railway itself, two spectacular miners’ slides (a photo is taken automatically on the first one), the impressive Mirror Lake, a movie theater, and the Magical Salt Room.
Restrooms are available on site. There are also lockers for small items of luggage, which are suitable for backpacks.
After the tour, everyone will take the mine train. Afterward, all participants will return their coveralls to the cloakroom.
Photos taken during the tour can be purchased in the coat check area. In addition, the salt shop invites you to browse and offers a lovely selection of souvenirs and salt products.

Whether by train, bus, or car, the Berchtesgaden Salt Mine is the perfect destination for a day trip from many nearby cities. We are 150 km from Munich, 27 km from Salzburg, and just 18 km from Bad Reichenhall.
Parking for tour buses
There are 6 bus parking spaces available in front of our visitor center. If these are occupied, you can park in the paid parking lot at Salzburger Straße 24.
Bus line 840 takes you from the Berchtesgaden bus station to our “Salzbergwerk” stop in about 5 minutes. From there, it’s just a short 250-meter walk to the visitor entrance.

Free bus parking is available on the street directly in front of the salt mine ticket office, at Bergwerkstr. 83, 83471 Berchtesgaden
The visitor parking lot is located at Salzburgerstr. 24, 83471 Berchtesgaden. This paid bus parking lot is operated by Contipark.
