Easter at the Salt Mine

Celebrate Easter with your family in the Berchtesgaden Salt Mine! On Easter Sunday, 9 April 2023, the Easter Bunny will surprise our little guests at every corner and diligently distribute sweet surprises (while stocks last) We look forward to shining children's eyes and fun moments above and below ground. The excursion into the hidden salt world begins with putting on a blue overall. In addition, it is advisable to wear warm clothing. After all, the temperature in the mine is only 12  C all year round. With the mine train and a cheery "Glück auf" (i.e. Good luck) on your lips, you then travel 650 metres deep into the mountain. Once underground, a unique view of the salt cathedral bathed in light opens up, offering a unique play of colours from the salt crystals. 150 years ago, this was still completely filled with brine – a salty spring water that is still actively extracted in Berchtesgaden today. The adventure continues down a 36-metre-long wooden slide. Those who are not quite so daring and shy away from the slide can also go deeper into the salt tunnel via a wooden staircase. The many exhibits from past centuries impressively convey the historical development of salt extraction under the Alps. Surrounded by growing and glittering crystals, you head towards the end of the visitor tour with an impressive raft ride across the mirror lake: After a good hour, you step back onto the earth's surface.Tip: Take advantage of our affordable combination ticket with the Old Saltworks in Bad Reichenhall.
